Teams that were picked are solid and everyone (almost) is pretty hype. See some complaints about numbers of teams but as the years go on this will develop. OCE got super fucked and China a tad but they’ll end up getting a spot.
Anyone know of any teams looking to drop there whole roster?

I’m sorry it was pretty obvious, but the good thing is all players will be in franchising don’t worry, starxo, cNed are insane additions to every single team

The biggest question mark right now is what happens to all of the T2 teams that were previously getting paid to play Valorant.

I can't imagine that many NA orgs will stick around paying salaries unless they immediately win through Ascension. It sucks that there will only be around 30 North American players getting paid to play Valorant. The scene as a whole is going to shrink massively.

Shoutout to all of the League orgs that wound up with Franchising spots though without ever really trying in this game (Immo/MIBR, T1, GenG, all of EMEA, etc.)

[Also, it's crazy how anyone complaining about NA franchising just gets downvoted to hell]

A lot of these team on stick around for riot to eventually franchise it wasn't a sustainable system lol. Tier 2 teams hope to bring up young new talent and sell them high to tier 1 orgs. A lot of the hype around valorant and initial investment from teams was for this exact moment.

I think the situation for Tier 2 pros in NA is pretty much the same, there will be tier 2 tournaments like NSG and stuff where teams that are not in VRL or VCT can compete like they already do

#11

Except that now there are half as many Tier-One spots available. Challengers had 12 teams each, the new Americas league only has 5 NA. Selling players will be incredibly difficult with so few slots available. It's just not feasible to have such a small pool of teams to begin with. There should have been separate South and North American leagues.

Nah bro, there's VRL, TSM, Faze, Guard, will be fighting for the ascending spot, I think there's actually 15 spots now, that league is gonna be great and really hype too bro

#15

The Guard is letting their team look for other options, I don't think they'll really be looking to sign a tier 2 team. Same with XSET, TSM, ex-Ghost, and Optic. Obviously, nothing is confirmed for now, but it looks like only a few of the (much) smaller orgs will be sticking around.

#17
Mortadelo

Frags

Nah, they are not gonna give up like that, ofc they are letting their players explore options to see if they make franchising as players but if they don't those orgs for sure will wanna build rosters to ascend, plus that league will have great viewership anyway. Ghost, OPTC, Guard, Faze, TSM, Xset, Shopify, Knights and 2 more

i can guarantee many of these T1 players do not want to waste their time playing in T2. only one team can advance through ascension, that is so little.

#25

Oh really, and what are they gonna do instead? switch to CS or what. It’s literally the only choice they have and it’s gonna be a great league. If they won’t accept going to the VRL then great, we need grinders not people with fucking ego

#27

There will definitely be players willing to push through the VRL. But with only one spot a year, there won't be many orgs willing to pay for it. We'll see a ton of orgless teams, and that's not a sustainable system.

#31

We won't see a single orgless team dude, look at EMEA VRLs this year, don't be so dramatic

Needed to happen though. Most of the big talent is dispersed all throughout teams in NA or other regions to. This closes that gap as most will be picked up, making better competition and will truly show who the best teams are.

In fairness most of the stuff you guys complain about has been covered by Riot or is just unnecessary. Seems like some people just need something to complain about. I understand where you’re coming from though. As of right now the Tier 2 scene will be the same as it was, weak viewership with some decent orgs. As time progresses we’ll see more teams enter the scene

#28
benjiapollo

The only problem with that is that the "Tier 2 scene" now includes the other 7 teams that used to be Tier 1 under the old system. Tier 1 is now less than half the size it used to be.

#35

T1 needed to be half the size there were way to many teams considered “T1” only because they had 2 star players and a org supporting them. I understand where you’re coming from but T2 will level itself out

It’s good for some, okay for some, shit for some. True that some regions that were fucked by riot again have the chance and probably will make it over the years through ascension, or so I hope.

Definitely not whining about franchising now ive seen the orgs I'm pretty happy with it the only thing that would have killed it would have been riot banning orgs names like the CDL did but thankfully they didn't 👍 good job riot

Glad to see someone else recognises that OCE got fucked, all good though, ORDER was our way in and they pissed the bed so I don’t blame Riot for taking caution, not to mention ORDER was like one of our biggest orgs we had apart from maybe PWR but I believe they didn’t take the risk for the same reason they didn’t take the risk with The Guard, just too new.

So far partnership is looking good and I’m excited to see what rosters come about, especially in NA.

I think there's space for everything. I actually don't like that much because there are some examples in LoL where it looks like that some teams don't give a fuck about being competitive and they just secure their spot bEcAuSe bUsiNeSs aNd mOneY (i might be totally wrong).

But come on, maybe this won't end like LoL and teams will stay competitive and will assemble good rosters, who knows.

League has been out for so long some players or teams even are bound to lose interest. If Valorant is able to even come close to Leagues success it’s a huge W

#19

sure. but how does a kid build a team with his friends and become #1 in the world? oh, they cant. ever. sorry kid.

thats not the esports I grew up with, or have interest in supporting. it may end up being the new normal and I'll just be a grumpy old man but, it's honestly a shame that experience is no longer gonna be possible for kids

#20

Frags

It still is?

  1. Teams are allowed to make roster changes whenever they please
  2. It takes so much dedication and hard work to be a pro player, most of these “kids” didn’t even have a chance before this, and if they were any good they’ll be getting picked up
  3. So you’d rather have weak competition and mediocre games with teams getting shit on rather than amazing games where it feels as if teams are on the same level? All because some kids deserve a chance (that they can still get)

i think i will wait to see how a part of the 3rd point you mention develops in reality. Maybe my vision is influenced by the NA LoL scene, where orgs looks like capable of assemble good rosters, and sometimes they do in paper, but the level it's kinda low. I mean how many years Golden Guardians have been milking the system. Heck, SK and BDS in EU aren't that behind too.

My point is that franchising doesn't garantize good level. I can't see that as a point (not saying you're wrong, but i've read it in different threads. People think that franchising will make the game more competitive).

  1. If a high school group of friends makes a team and becomes better than all franchises, they can't play vs the best teams in officials

  2. they can beat every franchise team in scrims every day in and be hands down the best team, no franchise can just 'pick them up' as a 5 because they have contracts in place with other players already.

  3. so you're removing the potential for a group of ppl to become the best team in the world, and play in officials against the 'best teams in the world' and you think franchising is good for amatuer or pro competitive scenes.

yeah, kids can get picked up out of that team, and that can now be a pivot point for some players to launch a career, but that group cant achieve success together the way a group in my day could

#43

No group of high school kids is making a team and becoming the best of any region. It never happened in CS, it never happened in literally almost any other game i can think of man. Esports in general was a lot smaller then, and wasn’t accepted really. Nowadays you’re lucky to find a kid that doesn’t wanna be pro or stream it’s just not possible for any game

#34

Well, they can if they got scouted. I kinda understand you because maybe franchising scares people sometimes with the "pay to be a part of the elite" concept, but at the end it isn't that black and white.

We have to wait and see what happens.

  1. Better teams = More competition

  2. Chemistry would be a thing but that can develop.

  3. Stop comparing this to games that aren’t FPS it doesn’t make much sense as they are played differently.

  4. You’re right nothing is black and white, but this almost gurantees teams will be better with time. It’s very narrow minded to think all teams will be the same level after adding some of the best players. Time will tell as u said

Man, franchising applies to whatever game exists. Of course it can be compared with LoL, with more reason considering is the same company. The principle is the same.

Also if you want to compare it with a FPS game, Overwatch works with franchising too (as far as i know). And well, that should be enough said to prove that franchising isn't the panacea of esports.

You have 30 franchised teams and only 5 of them are NA when NA and EU are the only regions in the game that have multiple championship level teams, every other region struggles to send more than one team that can beat EU/NA worst team, its not toxic and its fine but obviously people will be upset that slots get handed out like participation awards for everyone just because they want to expand the fan base into other areas. Again this was bound to happen but for you to just say why is everyone mad megaLUL is braindead

They’re were way to many teams considered T1 all over the world. I agree the amount of teams they’re are and the distribution is strange but in the end it’ll only help the game. If teams form properly and build decent chem will have some actual crazy ass matches

I agree that the slot distribution was a little odd, NA definitely needs more than 5 but I also understand that NA isn’t the only region and Riot are trying to create a international opportunity not just a “NA v EU” rivalry over and over, a lot of people support smaller regions and love to see underdogs perform well on he international stage. I do understand your point though.

Just sucks that best rosters that NA have produced will likely split now. I don’t see a chance that any franchised team buys full rosters from Optic, XSET, The Guard, or any other team that was really good and didn’t make it.
