I love how riot claims they randomized the champs playoff bracket, yet in playoffs they put Optic and XSet in the same side of the bracket and have 100T (assuming they qualify) playing either optic or xset round 1.
This isn't the first time they've done this:
- Masters 1 Iceland, Optic vs Guard round 1
(this was the only same region match up, since G2 and TL did not face each other round 1) - Masters 2 Copenhagen, Optic vs XSet round 1
(this was dogshit for all regions since Fnatic faced FPX and Guild was on the same bracket side as them, but it was still NA vs NA regardless) - Masters 3 Berlin, SEN vs Envy (Optic) round 1
(this was the most upsetting. Acend, Gambit, and G2 were all in separate round 1 games, yet SEN, Envy, and 100T were all on the same side of the bracket?)
It's annoying how Riot claims they randomize all of these playoff brackets, even though they likelyrig the brackets to avoid a same region grand finals for the sake of viewership (not just NA, but all regions). The odds of all 4 of these isolated incidents ending up having a same region matchup round 1 is too unlikely for it to be "random". I just think it's really shitty how disingenuous Riot's been with the brackets at every LAN. Let the 2 best teams get to Grand Finals without outside forces influencing the region matchups.
edit:
i'm losing braincells with these bad takes.
"it's happens to EMEA too" (i dont give a fuck who it happens to, i just stated a fact that it happens to NA the most).
"it's not that unlikely" (the same bracket matchups happens too many times. NA vs NA round 1 in the 4th slot BOTH MASTERS?)
edit 2:
people asked for the math, here you go:
Guaranteed NA matchup for first 2 rounds in M3 Berlin: 1/3 (Envy and 100T on same side of bracket) x 1/2 (sentinels playing either Envy or 100T) = 1/6
Round 1 NA matchup in M1 Iceland: (Guard was 1st seed, Optic was 2nd, only 4 potential teams for optic to play against) = 1/4
Round 1 NA matchup in M2 Copenhagen: (XSet was 1st seed, Optic was 2nd, only 4 potential teams for optic to play against) = 1/4
Guaranteed NA matchup for first 2 rounds in Champs 2022: 1/3 (Optic and XSET on same side of bracket) x 1/2 (100T playing against one of them) =1/6
1/6 x 1/6 x 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/576 or 0.17% chance of all of these isolated incidents happening
the raw chance of 1 of these matchups happening isn't what pisses me off, it's the fact that ALL of them have happened and riot claims these brackets are randomized. the only time NA didn't have a round 1 matchup in playoffs was in Masters 2 Iceland, but NO region had a round 1 matchup.
If any mathematician wants to check my work, feel free to do so.
edit 3:
I forgot in M3 SEN had to face another 1st seed that wasn't G2, so it should be 1/3 * 2/3 = 1/3 (same applies to this years champs with 100T and DRX)
1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3 = 1/81 or 1.2%. credit to Noodle for pointing out the discrepancy
