I rather they do the top 5 for each role, making it so more players can be honored without having to compare two players who do different things

I agree. I think its hard to compare players that are in different roles.

the problem is that there are many players which don't fit into one single role, and the role "flex" varies a lot

The whole list would be diluted be star players even if they aren’t key to their respective teams results
