this would be so bad for the scene

It's all taken as a part of their in-game purchases, so the more people play, the more they spend, the more competitive the esport gets. It's a very effective model for teams, fans, players, and Valve.

Few teams gets loads of money while everyone else gets a middle finger. All that money could be used to support more scenes instead of making OG's owners richier.

it's all the teams from the same game who qualify for a world-class tournament series, it's not like they didn't earn it. why would Valve ever give the DOTA prize pool to a game that is not DOTA that they do not make any money or benefit from in any way?

Are you on drugs bro? I'm obviously talking about using this money to support their own scene. Competitive Dota 2 is basically dead in a lot of regions cause lack of support. Meanwhile, a few teams are earning millions.

its alive in China, SEA, Europe and Peru (KEKW) so its fine, NA are genetically bad in esports and Korea only knows League apparently so I would say its fine

no its not fine , Its only 'alive' in China and Europe primarily the rest of regions are barely competitive even if they have some representation and many regions are ignored by valve completely and are killed even further by molding their esports scene only around already stronger regions few examples of what Riot has done much better with their ecosystem are 1) Zeta , Imagine a Japanese team finishing top3 in an FPS game tournament never happening in Valve event as they just nerf the weaker regions and buff already stronger regions 2) VLT , Imagine an Indian team in top20 prize pool earnings ik most of the credit to that goes to 3rd party tournaments but Riot gets some credit too as that's only possible coz they Didn't ignore South Asian region like Valve did there was an Indian qualifier for ESL Cologne 2014 after that nothing

even in China im not sure if it's popular lol. It might seem popular because some of their huge population still play but pretty sure the majority prefer league

"All that money could be used to support more scenes" sounds like more scenes in diff games, just misunderstood.

This prize pool has ruined Dota 2 scene coz no one cares about any other event except TI and this big prize pool for one single event doesn't make any sense u can use that money to build better infrastructure

A team would just win it once , disband and invest the money... easy life after that

The Dota 2 model is very unhealthy. Other than a The Internationals, no one watches the game. Valorant and LoL have been in top 3 every damn day barring any WOW expansion release or new game launch e.g. Elden ring.

just because no big streamer streaming dota 2 doesnt mean no one watches the game lmao. a low tier tournament still gain a lot of viewers considering the teams who play most likely tier 3.

Dota regional qualifiers in every region have lower viewership than Valorant reguonal qualifiers

you're from SEA. You should know how much more popular league and valorant is world wide. League is by far the biggest esports for nearly 10+ years. Riot pretty much nails it to make games that popular for wide variety of casual players.

Valorant, lol, dota 1 and 2 are all popular here. I don't catch up with dota 2 that much but iirc we even have a Philippine team in ti and i think they won 2 mil and they had manila major here. Only csgo is pretty much dead here, if u play csgo that means u down bad.

im not disagree with that. they're indeed popular. i dont agree when someone said "no one watch dota 2" thats just wrong. also when TI start, the viewers just way bigger than worlds / masters.

I don't like this model, this just fills the pockets of few teams, it's way better for the scene to split the budget among multiple regions and leagues instead.

too much money in the TI, it makes other tournaments kinda look like tier99

this would be pretty bad but they should throw in more money for champions. 350k for winning is ass lmao

this is terrible lol, just cause you have a big prize pool doesn't mean anything. DOTA always had huge prize pool, whereas league has a fraction of that but still by far the more popular moba world wide.

dota has huge prize pool for one tournament only
thus rest of tournaments over the year get massively overshadowed

its really bad fr the scene

#33
dupreeeeeehalt

the problem with it is, tournaments other than ti get dwarfed, and most teams don't really care about winning them and most teams simple try to accumulate dpc (circuit) points to qualify for ti

the money is for the creme de la creme, means for the top placings. even dota pros called for a cap in the prize pool and distribute the leftover money for t2/t3 tournaments

but yeah i think riot can increase the champions prizepool just a lil bit, winner should get atleast 500k

The thing is dota has a massive and consistent following and a hard game to learn, compare to league of legends
