Hi vlr,

today I bet a little bit of money on Zeta vs DRX going to a 3rd map and I won (the odds were 2.2x so I doubled my money).
however, I don't wanna get addicted to betting/gambling, if I'm going to do it I want to do as responsibly as possible.

Question: do any of you bet on esports and if so, do you have any tips regarding addiction/responsible betting?

I don't bet on valorant but I used to bet on football (soccer for the americans) and did really well. It's very addictive and it will end up taking you a lot of money if you're not really good. For example I stopped when I lost an 8k value bet (didn't spend 8k on it, I would have won 8k) for a single game that went wrong, and that's when I realized that I could have got addicted to it. When you start to get too close to earn a lot, stop, otherwise you'll get addicted
(For anyone who might ask, no, I wasn't addicted to it, and no, I didn't end up losing any money, in total I earned like 120 bucks more than what I spent)

Studying statistics helped me a lot because we learned a lot about gambling odds and how the expected value of a gamble is nearly always negative, so if you win anything just cash out

just set limits ahead of time on how much you're willing to spend and don't let yourself exceed it

gambling is addictive but if you're cognizant of it you can do it healthily

used to bet in cs a little, then I lost because pimp (at that time decent player) subbed for a dogshit team and won, since then I hate pimp and stopped betting.
betting is a dark spiral, I know some people that won a lot of money and lost all that money + some more in the same week, when asked about it they say that the money they won didn't really feel real/earned, so they didn't mind losing it.

I put in 400BRL and bet 200BRL, now I have 840BRL total. I'm just gonna cash out and not touch betting again unless I have stupid money.

I gamble on irl football matches and when I place a bet I basically consider the money gone like I’ve spent it for extra enjoyment when watching the game

As someone else already said, only bet what you can afford to lose, and never go over the line, before vettung anything always ask yourself "Am I gonna do this again this week/month? Can I afford to do so?"

a friend and I bet on CS often.

Only bet with previous winnings. I started with a £50 float which raised into the hundreds. I always keep a £100 backup as a safety net. I only ever bet with money I've won from betting, never using money I earned irl.

The most important thing about gambling is, Only, and ONLY bet what you're willing to lose.

also research matches, players, etc. What maps are most likely to be played, etc. That's what you do if you want to actually get serious with consistent betting.

I bet 200 BRL in the Loud x G2 game, made a bet of 100 BRL in the victory of Loud, and 100 in a 2x1 victory. It was the first time I bet and only did it because it was a money that was not going to miss me, in the end I was with the same 200 BRL. I could have doubled my money if I'd just bet on the win.
