Bit of a Meteor hater but Icl he’s looking incredible rn, and usually plays better internationally than domestically

His play style is very give and take sometimes, he’s a massive X factor which is why he was so good on geng with consistent players like texture and Karon, but he sometimes takes absolutely questionable duels and has really rough maps
I don’t believe he’s top 10 OAT because of that just because he has two trophies, I don’t think he’d be as succesful if he wasn’t on geng or t1 during their Bangkok form

but he basically won them so many unwinnable rounds vs G2 at bangkok and he also won them Ascent vs FPX and the series vs G2 at Shanghai, plus he started the comeback vs Heretics on Mound. I think he met the right team that would maximise his strengths on GEN.G and he was the difference maker on T1.
For me that's what I like about him. No matter what happens he isn't afraid to take risks and be the difference maker. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but he makes it work well enough to win two trophies, which is a pretty good record for me. It's the same way Faker plays in league - my goat may int but he's not a pussy.
You can say many players wouldn't be as successful if they didn't meet the team that would give them their big wins. Zekken was second to Cryo on XSET but is the best duelist in Americas now that he's on SEN.
this is kind of a weird take when you think about how much worse geng are and t1 would be without meteor though - i honestly don't think either would have won their trophy without him on the roster ... that last bit that seems to imply he was lucky to be on roster-winning rosters just feels so off since i would argue he is the crucial difference in turning a good roster into a trophy-winning one (i.e. the roster is lucky to have him, not the other way around)
geng without meteor are constantly crumbling leads - before when they'd start choking a little, you could always count on meteor to just suddenly hit a round-winning 3 or 4k by himself and drag them over the line, and on t1 he is easily their best player.
I think he’s a great player, but this is exactly what I’m talking about when I say he’s overrated. Yes, he could hit crazy crucial plays, but izu had a life tournament playing 3 different roles at Bangkok and got passed up for mvp because meteor is flashier.
Same with geng because texture and Karon are extremely consistent, sure meteor can solo win them rounds but often times the reason why meteor is setup to make game winning plays is Karon and texture consistently fragging out on the other rounds.
Meteors a great player but people give him too much credit for his teams success. T1 wouldn’t have won Bangkok without izu, and if you removed texture Geng would also crumble.
is this not expecting too much though?
outside of 2021 and maybe even 2022 - which player can you honestly say singlehandedly is responsible for their team's success? that you could change all 4 of the other players on the team and there would be no meaningful difference? you could use the same argument about removing any crucial player from a team for many other players as well - e.g. chronicle is considered by many as the greatest player of all time - but chron without nats, or chron without one of leo/alfa/derke/boaster might also not have won some of his titles.
it's not like nats and less have significantly worse teammates (none of meteor's teammates had accomplished much before, less literally has a 2-time major winner), yet they haven't been able to accomplish the same. And I still think nats is a good player (and rate him highly bc he's igl-ing too). But I would definitely rate meteor over less.
Edit: (and I say this with the lens of as someone who is not a fan of any of them and am not just defending Meteor as someone who is a fan - I just think he is underrated - were he American ppl would be dickriding hard)
course i don't, but you can't think there's any player out there where the other 4 players don't matter - it's literally a team game - and i think it's a dumb af argument to dismiss meteor bc he didn't 'singlehandedly' carry a team when none of everyone's goats did either.
i am saying he provided incredible value to each of the team he was a part of, was a big part of their win, and he should be given credit for it (which he does not often receive - hence is underrated - i'm not saying put him in your top 5, but fk he deserves to at least be considered in the top 15).
Every single person has him in their top 15, but I think there’s an argument for why he isn’t top 10. Personally, I also don’t have chronicle as the goat, for similar reasons. I don’t think trophy count makes you a goat in a 5v5 team game where meta changes every other month. Imo, if you aren’t a top tier player ignoring ur trophy count you can’t be the goat.

I also think beating prime fnc and prime optic twice and competing with prime prx and EG was more impressive than meteor beating prime g2 and heretics and competing with Madrid sen. Individually, less definitely clears if you put them on the same level of roster imo, on sentinel for sure, as his play style is better suited to it.
However, meteor also plays duelist so you have to give him credit for flexibility.
Ngl meteor has been great this stage but dh easily has been their best player. And in Toronto izu was their best player. T1 fans actually don't give much credit to other players lol. Even if buzz isn't likable he is so impactful as well just cause of how flexible he is in duelist role. And stax always has some insanely impactful games too and his igling has been good as well.
