I started watching VCT in 2023 with Lock In. I picked NRG as my team since their team introduction video was the first to hit my feed. I didn't know anything about FNS or optic or any of the history of the players, I just thought the team had good vibes. Eventually I learned about FNS's reputation for being a GOAT igl and since I was brand new to the game back then I just bought into it. In 2024 he was talking all high and mighty about how he would come back with the "perfect team" and that he still had the greatest mind in the game despite his poor fragging. Now in 2025 he's getting outcalled by the likes of Mitch and can't go positive to save his life. How good could FNS possibly have been in 2021 and 2022 to justify his strong reputation?

tldr: FNS has had very little results since I started watching the game and now he can't even outcall mid teams anymore. How good was he in the optic/nv days to justify the reputation he has of being a GOAT igl until now?

during his OPTC days he was actually good, however he couldn't keep up with the constant meta changes this game has to offer

Riot prefers chaos over strategic and organized gameplay

he succeeded in 2021-2023 mainly because the chamber and skye meta required information. the meta this year is vastly different

different igls thrive in different metas

game was more info based and simple back then (like cs, where fns comes from)

FNS been a mid IGL from the start, never anywhere near goat status

FNS had the ability to read early teams really well. Go back and watch some of the games Optic played against the likes of DRX and LOUD. His calling, on some maps such as Bind, was incredible for the time. It was a huge step forward from 2021, and he lead Optic to have one of the best years we've seen out of anyone. Aside from his calling being ahead of the times, other teams weren't quite at that good of a level back then either, so it lead to him outcalling the crap out of them.

There's a difference between a midrounder and an IGL.
Also, 4/8; got me to respond a few times

How do you know what FNS is calling and who’s making which reads if the voice comms aren’t made public?

They don't show the IGL calling even in comms videos nowadays. Also, the crashies "argument" is negated by 2024 NRG. If he was main calling, why did 2024 NRG fail? Regardless, it's been stated many times by Optic members that FNS was doing most of the calls and making most of the reads.

he had one of the best years of comp history for an IGL and was a cornerstone for tier 1/2 csgo for years

Yeah, fun fact, Optic's average results in internationals was the same as Fnatic's average results in internationals in 2023, with both coming at 2. (Note that this is really dragged down for FNATIC because of their relatively early exit at champs)

carried by prime y0y and m0rved, won a trophy because fpx couldn't attend, first time he beat an eu team was when they had a sub (dimasick)

VCT has had, until 2023, 9 internationals. in six of them he was at least top 5, with one title

He genuinely was a great igl. But remember he also had yay going +30 every series, that helped a lot too.
