less substituted carbocation = substitution reaction

tertiary carbon = always e
secondary carbon = depends, have to look at stuff like bases and whatever
primary carbon = can be both but USUALLY favors sn
methyl carbon = always sn

difference between an sn1 and sn2 / e1 and e2 is the strength of the electrophile, that’s something you will have to memorize
