Yeah, if you Ctrl-B (or Ctrl-H, for that matter) it tends to break it sometimes. Refreshing fixes it but it's a little annoying

My recommendation is to just stick with keyboard characters:
- * for italics
- ** for bold
- ~~ for strikethrough
- # for headings
- ``` for code
- > for quotes
