WWYD? Loyalty to VALORANT teams.

Over the summer, I really grinded VALORANT again for the first time since covid, and I found passion in the game again. I joined a summer team, thinking it was just the first small step in my journey to something bigger. Now, two weeks into my senior year of college, I've been offered a captain position for my school. However, my summer team (I met online btw) has committed more than I could ever imagine to improving. I, personally, did not ever think we would make it this far when it comes to commitment. I've created great friendships with all of them, but I never even told them I tried out for my school's team. Now, I'm in a position that tests my loyalty and honesty, and I honestly feel terrible about the whole thing. Do you think they'd understand? They know how seriously I treat my actual academics, but my school's VAL team might be over the top. I'm not sure, I feel bad lol. I may just be overreacting, but I'd love to hear thoughts on how I can deal with this situation. I really do not want to pass up on this opportunity coming from my school.

Mind you the school team is an official team
The summer team is not registered as an official team anywhere, and it's been our job to put ourselves out there.

Are the two mutually exclusive? like is it a premier team where you can't participate in both?

Ooh very interesting, I think it depends a lot on your goals in valorant. If you could share that I think it would add a lot

Just be honest with them

This is a classic esports dilemma. Pros have this option all the time. Choose whatever you think has the highest potential of going the farthest. Don't lie. Be honest to which team you deny.

But if the other team is isn't registered anywhere that means there should in theory be nothing stopping him from playing on that too

I mean imagine doing Premier while Collegiate Tournaments. 2 different teams with potentially 2 different ways of playing the game. Also I would think some games would overlap no? I've never done premier so idk how it works.

Yeah the games would overlap, but maybe he wouldn’t have to do premier in both?? I want this guy to add some more info

it depends on how seriously they take the premier team, if you don't do anything outside of the game it's like an hour a week of commitment, and in case of any overlap you get multiple chances to play the map (3 chances most weeks, 1-2 chances on some specific weeks). It pretty much depends on how much free time OP has and how much of a time commitment the non professional team is.

College team is collegiate
Online team is not registered as an official team in any leagues.

As much as staying on both sounds ideal, I could only imagine being an IGL and captain for two separate teams being extremely exhausting. I'm also planning to graduate from college by the end of May this year as well.

Furthermore, I wouldn't want to belittle my online team and look at them as lesser priority because of this. The team was really formed around me and the chemistry I was able to build together with my lads.

I just feel terrible. Building such a beautiful community that helped me get to where I am today.

Someone did ask my goals though. I want to become collegiate. It's the whole reason I grinded in the beginning is because I truly believe I have a great mind for the game, and I want to put it to the test. So I think with that goal in mind, my future decision will become inevitable, it's just going to be a hard pill to swallow for my old teammates, and I'm the type to feel really bad about these things.

If you rlly wanna test yourself at a high level don’t worry about your old team, you only have so many chances to play in collegiate. You can always play ranked with them but you may not be able to carry out a chance in collegiate again

I think they’d understand and cheer for u

These type of problems always happen in the big leagues. Choose an option you think is best for you and grind to become to best. You got this.
