You can't simply underestimate a Chinese team because there are from the Chinese region as a whole. Although I do still think out of all four regions they are as a whole still the weakest, it's not by the massive margin that everyone makes it out to be. The way these guys are being treated like royalty in China, the budget that they get for staging and lan matches like their Stage 2 finals, this is a region that REALLY wants to win. You can't simply count out a team anymore at an international event because they are from VCT CN.

I agree what you say but I also think Americas and EMEA teams are lot weaker compared to previous years. Like for example if we had Split instead of Abyss (Not everyone mastered this map), then the outcomes of some series will be totally different in the Group Stage/Playoffs at Champs.

I think that's just an unfortunate characteristic of the americas and emea region. Although its gotten better, there is still a slight stubbornness to make changes and take risks (god dammit they still consider deadlock a gimmick). Meanwhile CN and Pacific are regions built around taking risks and trying new things, so they tend to adapt to changes alot faster and better.

I think the esport is in a really good place currently, as all the regions have real contenders. I think we're a few years away from China/Asia being the top dogs though, cause what these teams have gotten to after this short of a timespan is pretty crazy. Not to mention like the whole edg team having no prior pro exp in other games, feel like we're starting to see the shift from former CS guys to homegrown Val players, it will be super interesting to watch.
