2nd year of franchising (4th year of VCT) and the scene is already starting to be dominated by Korean and Chinese teams.
If this trend continues and East Asians keep improving I'm afraid Americas and EMEA won't win another trophy for a long time...
sentinelmain377 [#5]imma just prob not watch. hopefully it stays balanced. maybe they need more agents like KAYO
I hope it stays balanced too, I wouldn't like Valorant to become like CS that's dominated by Europeans or LoL that's dominated by Asians
Realm3098 [#2]starting to be dominated by Chinese is a bold statement. They are yet to face good teams and I mean GOOD teams and not regional farmers.
today they have faced 3/6 potential trophy winners. only geng, heretics and fnatic stand if g2 lose this. that seems pretty good chance of future domination
i mean the ones that were predded. no one expected drx to win but they played very well

the potential winners that most people thought was GENG, FNC/TH, and G2. Lev was not one of them. Nonetheless, CN looking really good.

many people thought lev was gonna win

nah maybe top 6 but winning? LEV was not consistent enough nor had a good mid-rounding in international stages. CN didn't beat GENG, FNC and G2 (yet, EDG has a really good chance tho). pretty good chance of future domination is a stretch considering valorant has constant map rotation and meta changes.

eh maybe ive been talking to too many aspas glazers then mb

all good bro, you have all the right to be confident in champs 2024 tho. EDG, FPX, and TE all looking very very good.
jvre [#4]I see what you're trying to say but holy fucking overreaction. Brother it has been the first round of the tournament. And in Gen.G's case they aren't dominating if they're losing to TH. Gen.G in LoL wouldn't be losing to G2 (This year)
OK, It might be an overreaction
But it's a fact Asian teams have become better and better this year and they keep improving
As I said, only if this trend continues Valorant will be like LoL, unless the western teams step up and scout great young talents (like TH did)

Also ain't no way you compare a superteam (Geng in LoL) that has only lost a single official circuit match this year, has broken the record for most wins in a row and has won 10/10 of their last matches against the most goated team in LoL's history (T1) with their Valorant division, which at the start of 2024 almost nobody even had them making an international tournament

honestly i really hope no region dominate the scene, its boring to watch eu vs eu like in cs or east asia vs east asia like lol
yadayada [#23]honestly i really hope no region dominate the scene, its boring to watch eu vs eu like in cs or east asia vs east asia like lol
Yeah exactly this
Ullyr [#22]It won't be like league if you're being realistic. It's an fps. Westerners been playing fps for years and it's a popular genre for many games not like moba
I hope so

No they won'tš, besides FPX and GENG china and Pacific have been disappointing this year.

DRX?
Trace???
Tomczi [#27]Holy overreaction, china and korea isn't starting to dominate anything, its just GENG that have been very good this year
First of all I'm talking about Champs, since only lately have the other Asian teams aside from GENG found a good form:
DRX 2-0 EMEA's 1st seed (I'm a fnatic fan btw)
FPX almost won vs Heretics who are possibly top 3 itw
Trace demolished America's 1st seed LEV
EDG incredibly close match vs G2 (another favorite to win the entire tourney)
And you are telling me it's just GENG who are good???
You cannot deny that the other east asian teams haven't stepped up lately...
VacuousViper [#14]dude i was gonna edit my comment but i got distracted by edg winning
Bro got distracted for nothing :(

How could you forget SEN

But the west is improivng quite a bit? G2 while not changing their core roster have changed a lot from the guard that was getting 2-0ed by PRX and 2-1ed by Optic 2 years ago. Fnatic went from playing second fiddle to running the league for a year. Every year every region is improving and if the last two days have taught us anything its that the gaps aren't as big as they once were for anyone.

I agree with your take
What I'm trying to say, though, is that the gap between the west (emea & Americas) and the east (pacific & China) has closed a lot in favor of the last.
Btw probably I shouldn't have said "dominate" in the op, since a lot of you guys misunderstood my main point (which is that the Asian teams are not underdogs anymore but equal to the western ones and in the future possibly even better)
DuD5K1S [#33]I think we're super far from becoming LoL (where it is a celebration when a western team wins against an eastern team) but it is super nice to see that the best teams across the 4 leagues are super competitive. Hopefully no more "why china 4 teams" threads
Honestly that's a take I agree with, I also stated it above (see #8)
Exizephyr [#35]Every region currently has one team qualified. Every region currently has one team in the decider. Every region currently has two teams in the elimination games. What dominance are you talking about?
Probably wrong selection of words, I could have stated it much better
See #39

I mean that's fair, but a large reason is because teams like Trace copied a lot from top teams in other regions. In fact, they copied the most out of pretty much any Chinese team. It is always easier to climb up to the top than to stay at the top and continue improving, and I don't expect Chinese teams to continue improving at the same rate.
Also, a large reason why Korea/China is so dominant in LoL is because the game is not only way more popular there, and has been for such a long time, but Riot also heavily catered to them and basically let the competitive EU/NA scene for LoL rot and die out with terrible T2 and franchising decisions and now there is no money in the scene at all. That's probably not happening with Valorant since the FPS genre is much more prevalent in EU/NA and Valorant's competitive scene seems to be structured much better.
fluo4473 [#29]it's possible actually but it's not exactly
Riot is ramping up marketing in these countries (especially among LoL players) so the popularity of Valorant is increasing in these countries (in South Korea it's already 2nd popular online game and some ex-Overwatch pro players are switching to Valorant)
And now with EDG winning Champs Valorant is gonna become EVEN MORE POPULAR in China...
