Valve introduced "Compendiums" in Dota. You donate - and you get ultra rare skins, item chests, map weather styles and various other cosmetic stuff.

The prizepool of TI was crowd founded by those Compendiums.

Valve took 75% of all money generated and 25% and a 1.5 mil by Valve were the prizepool of The International.

So, they raised 40 mil for the TI this way. 1.5 mil of Valve+25% of the Community Donates

14 million income. You don’t know how much they’re spending. Esports is generally NOT profitable. Most companies are losing money, and we’ve seen massive salary inflation over the past few years.
