[AOT SPOILERS DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVENT YET READ THE MANGA/WATCHED LAST AOT EPISODE]

So I've seen that a lot of people don't like the ending to AOT, starting back from the ending was first released in manga form. I personally like it a lot, and I got the impression that a lot of the people who don't like the ending think that Eren killing everyone outside of paradis was "cool" and made Eren a "gigachad", and that revealing that Eren is actually a regular human with emotions cursed with a power that fostered centuries of conflict is a "soy" ending. I'm curious to hear what are the thoughts of other vlr users about the AOT ending.

My thoughts as well. I also think we can interpret AOT as a cautionary tale that we should try to understand each other more instead of dehumanizing people we disagree with/don't know much about.

The ending is Disgusting, I've read the manga since 2015. Sucks to wait 1 months only to read 1 chapter, but this manga was the only manga I wait every month. It was once my all time best manga, Now that I know the ending was like that. It doesn't even placed top 5. Ending is a crucial point to judge manga / anime

Ok, but what is the actual reason you dislike it?

It ends with Eren committing genocide for a kiss from his sister lmao

all that buildup just to

rip off code geass but without the same effect (e.g. bringing everyone together by becoming the ultimate enemy type shit)
NO!!!! I DON'T WANT THAT!!!!!!!!

On a surface level it is the same as Code Geass, but I feel there are sufficient differences that qualify it as original. Eren doesn't make himself a villain to unify the world. He did what he did to make the rest of the world realize what a terrible thing it is to wish extermination upon a group of people who are superficially different from you (we are all humans regardless of ideology, race, etc.), because he decided there was no other way to change the world's mind about Eldians. Ultimately of course there are still people on both sides who dehumanize the other side, but now there are people on both sides who understand that we are fellow humans as well.

his actual plan was to handicap the rest of the world while paradis was building up strength to defend themselves

Yeah totally a code geass rip-off when they literally kill off paradis and arming says we are not the heroes you want to make us out to be 🤣 stfu

i liked the ending, kinda wish he explored ymir a bit more

yeah,

everything revolving around Ymir loving her rapist pedophile husband was crazy... sure, that might be a possibility, but they didn't give any more explanation on why tf this happened

Ymir was literally a child with no one in her life loving her. As tragic as it is, it makes sense that people in such a desperate state cling to a source of "affection", even if that affection is fake, manipulative, and abusive. The reason people stay in abusive relationships is often times because the abuser has convinced the victim that they can't get love anywhere else.

sure, that's why i'm saying it's a possibility. a pretty absurd one, but one nonetheless.
if they explained it that way, i'd accept it (kind of), but they just said it and forgot about it
also dude remember to mark your spoilers

I mean I don't see anything about it being absurd.

Also, if someone scrolls down after I said "dont read this spoiler" in all caps at the top of the thread, that's their fault lol

That kiss is a no. From the manga point to anime. Now you imagine ardiis on eren place while mikasa kiss him. No

Beautiful ending. Perfectly encapsulates the theme of the 'cycle of hate'

Also really like the added detail of the boy at the end with the dog when he finds the tree as opposed to ymir being chased by the dogs

Why some were hoping for a different ending than this is beyond me. In addition to the future of Paradise Island, where a great deal of hatred still exists in people's hearts, the show's central theme already dealt with Eren and Mikasa's conflicted feelings of love, and they fit the puzzle together rather well at the conclusion.

nobody thought it was cool and eren a gigachad. That ending was darker and i dont think everyone could have handled it so isayama played safe. he messed it up tho.

I have mixed feelings. The concept was interesting but it being the actual ending wasn't what I wanted for the series.
