Because his stock has dropped after over a year out of competitive Val. He won't just walk into a T1 team after such a long time away. Needs to be proven in new metas.
Could also be his decision. Not that t2 is easy, but it's a good way to re-acclimate himself with competitive Val again.

Now that I think about it, probably more his choice than anything. If I was nitr0, married with kids, I'd be looking at which orgs don't appear to be fucking players over financially and contract wise. Not just who's in partnership already.
