Can anyone explain to me why being taller is generally considered an attractive quality? I don't really understand why that is, and from what I understand this standard applies for all genders.

but in reality this is just a trend like many other things that people say are more attractive

it's an evolutional thing, women back then who chose taller men were more likely to survive since their mates protected them better on average (because height is kinda related to muscle mass and bone density which are related to strength), so their genes were the ones which were passed down through generations.
