They are separate things. The Challengers League is where Tier 2 teams will compete to get into the International Leagues. The Americans League is one of the 3 International Leagues. The other two are European League and Pacific League.

Yeah so, we got VCT which are the 3 big franchised leagues Americas, EMEA and Asia, and to get to those leagues you have to be partnered with Riot, and given a contract that lasts 4 years. The other way to get into VCT is through winning your countries VCL (Every major country has one, and yeah most of them do have Open qualifiers), and then competing in an Ascension tournament for a spot in VCT
