Franchising will kill this game unchecked

Does nobody remember what happened with OWL? Franchising will force orgs to pull out of the game. It broke NA's best team. It's also fucked that teams aren't picked by Riot by who the best competition are. That completely undermines competitive integrity in the setting of an e-sport.

casual fans and community will make the game alive not the esports scene. ow died because of its updates which made the game like clownfiesta.

OWs game killed itself, valorant has a very active community and in terms of esports is not only popular rn but the franchise partner league isnt entirely closed off like say CDL or OWL are. So tier 2 still has a chance to live and thrive

But Overwatch and Valorant are run by two different companies.

Surely Riot learn something after watching how Blizzard handle it

kill the pro scene? maybe. kill the game? not at all, valorant has too many casual players to die

and it's too early to say the scene will be dead if that's what you implied. franchising both have negative and positive impact but imo the competive level will be higher as teams will form their "superteam" in order to stay partnered with rito.

Riot has more than a few years' worth of running franchised leagues. Spanning from North America to the Pacific regions, they've managed to coordinate with their regional offices to maintain the competitiveness and the interest of each league. Were their decisions always perfect? No. I have a few gripes, but as far as I'm concerned, it wasn't as catastrophic.

But with OWL? The entire idea of a city-based league were doomed to begin with. It's not that it wasn't viable — it was too damn risky to run its original plan of a offline home/away game on every city base. They've managed, sure, but goddamn their business decision were the catalyst in the state they are in right now. They also flubbed their handling over their Tier 2 and lower competitions at the start.

I implore you to visit this website: https://valorantesports.com/vct-teams

It explains the criteria Riot had laid out for the partnership teams. Competitiveness isn't everything and not the endgame. Does this mean your favourite team has the chance to implode? Yes. But when one door close, another open.

So many ppl are uninformed about franchising. They're also uninformed about what actually killed overwatch its mainly blizzard mismanaged their games like how they mismanaged all their other titles. Seriously blizzard and riot are night and day when it comes to just managing their ip and games as companies.

Wrong line of logic here. Overwatch started killing itself through poor updates, boring metas, inefficiently having teams travel from city to city to compete, signing exclusive deals with Youtube and leaving Twitch completely, etc., not because of franchising.
