None of: Spain, Germany or France had star players to compete with Messi, Ronaldo or Modric at that height (Spain arguably had Iniesta, you mentioned Sneijder, France had Mbappe, but I don't think he was even that close, there were more before him), but I believe this time is different. Haaland will probably win his fair share, but this is the year Messi consolidates himself as the GOAT, and they don't give him the ballon d'or? Just my opinion
He has an Average currently of a goal every 60 minutes played or something, which is astounding, but the status one gains by winning the WC, I think it goes to Messi anyway, and Haaland is unfortunate to be born norwegian with a team that even he can't carry (no offense norwegians)
Morocco yeah I guess, Croatia I disagree, but that's a good point. However, Messi has already become an icon this year due to his performance in this tournament, and it's obvious as to why. The award isn't always given the award to the player with the most goals, as I said above, they give it to the one who is most voted by journalists, managers, etc. Haaland would have to put up the most fantastic stats to take that off of Messi
Just making the comparison between what most of Haaland's goals have been, against what Messi has done. Balon d'or is decided based not only on the amount of goals scored or assisted, but also on what influence the player has on the game. Modric won in 2018 (shouldn't have imo, but whatever) due in great part to his WC performance. If Messi puts up even a decent season he should win it. If Haaland absolutely carries Man City to a UCL win then that's ok, there can be an argument made, but otherwise Messi wins
What's worth more in your opinion: 2 goals against France in a World Cup Final or 2 goals against West Ham

Mobile games and e-sports aren't all bad, they have quite a good influence on less privileged communities in under-developed 2nd and 3rd world countries. It can give young kids a way of life (however unlikely it is to make it professionally) that is different to an unfortunately very popular option which is crime and drug trafficking, at least in Brazil

Simple format: 8 groups of 4 teams, each plays the other 3 teams once, win gets you 3 points, draw gets you 1 point, best two teams make it through. Those 16 teams play a single elimination bracket all the way to the final
