if one group is much better than the other, 3 teams from that group should qual to masters

“normal” group format still makes it possible for one group being much better than the other with the same amount of spots in playoffs
so unless you hate the traditional group format as well, i better not see you shit on this format when your teams doesn’t make it to china

also you’re saying that a team that has gone through all the qualification and proceeded to win (doesn’t even have to be sen) doesn’t deserve the praise because the qual process was “unfair”
even if it is less “significant”, it’s still a masters win and it IS deserved
by your logic Shanghai is not going to be fair either because teams only play half of the other teams. there is a world where one group is way better than the other but a team doesn’t go even to playoffs because they are placed against other good teams (but a team from the other group that is clearly worse still goes through). and in addition the first round of playoffs is also single elim

Rito actually made a decent format that suits the idea of each consecutive major being more significant than the previous

• Masters Madrid is full of underdogs which makes it more exciting but it also doesn’t feel like “the best of the best” are there because of the qual process
  Then we have the split 1 where teams play only half of the teams
• Masters Shanghai is an event that will see teams that are better in the mid stage -> still not perfect for selecting best teams but still rewarding the ones that start strong
• Champions teams will be selected based on results of both Split 1 and 2 so here is where actually “best of the best” will play
  So this way there is actually a difference between masters and champs unlike last year where 3/4 teams in each region automatically qualified to both masters and champs, which made them feel like basically the same event

that kick off winner gets 3 champs points
so even if TH or KC turns out to be a fluke they still get a huge leg up

I think that rito made kick off single elim so that they can scale up the significance of each major as the season goes. So Madrid is cool but not the strongest teams, then Shanghai a bigger masters and then champs.
Also i bet they hoped for upsets so that there is a variety of teams across 3 events
