it's a common misconception because riot didn't mention this in their initial video, however here are the official conditions from valorantesports.com
Ascended Team Defends their slot at Ascension
If they qualify for Stage 2 playoffs but fail to qualify for Champions
If they are top 8 in Champions Points but fails to qualify for Champions
If they are the lower performing of two Ascension Teams who qualified for Champions
If they are tied for Top 8 in Champions Points
they do, but i gave them only 40% because they aren't even out of the groups yet, and their opponents are quite tough
China:
XLG - 95% stay
They are already guaranteed to be top8 champ points, so they will go back to ascension in the worst case. They are tied at 11 points with EDG at the top of CN, giving them an extremely high chance of going to champs (they are playing well so probably won't even need the points)
DRG - 60% stay
With the 2 wins in stage 2, they pretty much guaranteed playoffs for themselves. While there is a chance that they don't qualify, it's pretty much impossible. Given that XLG are very likely to make champs, they need to make it as well AND outperform them there, which is extremely difficult to do. In ascension I will trust them to win it again, however, it's a big guess since we really don't know what CN t2 looks like right now
Americas:
G2 - 99.99% stay
They are already qualified to champs, and the 0.01% is the case where they get outperformed by 2G somehow
2G - 10.01% stay
If they don't make it to playoffs, there is still a tiny little chance that they become top 8 on points. They have 1 point, tied with LOUD and LEV. NRG has 2, FUR has 0. So they need ALL these teams to also do very shit, otherwise gg. And even if they do make ascension, the competition will be tough with ENVY and EXL looking dominant, but anything can happen in valorant
EMEA:
Apeks - 0.5% stay
They have 0 points, and are in a tough group. So there's just no way
M8 - 40% stay
They have 1 point, so it's either go playoffs or go home. They have upset potential, but i don't see them making Paris after the loss to FUT. That said, they will have a good chance in ascension if they end up there, especially since 2 teams will probably be qualifying from EMEA
APAC:
BOOM - 35% stay
Despite falling off, BOOM are pretty much locked in for ascension. They've got 5 points already (7th place as of now) and are yet to play ZETA and DFM. Even if they go winless, the only way they don't end up top 8 is if NS gets 2 more points AND one of GE/TS/ZETA gets into top 4 in playoffs (if NS wins 1 or 0 more games, then TWO of the mentioned teams will have to get top 4). So, yeah, BOOM is going to ascension. There, it's tough I think. They really need to get closer to their stage 1 form if they want to stay.
NS - 60% stay
Champs is looking impossible for them. Summing up all possibilities, they need to get top 4 just to have a chance, and even then there are many different scenarios which I'm not gonna waste your time on discussing. Ascension, however, is very likely. They can easily get playoffs, but even if they don't, they have 4 points, so the situation is very similar to the BOOM case where one of GE/TS/ZETA has to go on a generational run never seen before. I think they are just better than BOOM, and will be favorites in ascensions for most people.

it’s right before stage 2 which is very important for most teams, so playing on the old patch nerfs some teams (cn fan bias)
like nrg, rrq, blg, even th, just to name a few, who aren’t really guaranteed champs yet couldn’t practice bind and corrode this whole time
not only that gives ewc teams less time to prepare, it also makes ewc practically a 5-map tournament
so a simple change will instantly make this tournament much better
ask them if they will be satisfied with only winning ewc and no masters, and they will say no
equal to lock in or slightly better
