I like anime for a lot of the things animation can explore that live action can't, in the west, cartoons are seen as for children (although this is changing) so you don't see any mature stories like monster for instance. in online Iit's easy enough since you just use a engine, irl tournaments they normally go to the bathroom and check a chess engine on their phone, this is the most common. People have also gotten accomplices to stand in the crowd and signal the move covertly. Most of this only works in classical though obviously.
