What's the point of the current vrl, since challengers 2 is already been confirmed to start with all teams locked in, and there being no more challengers/masters after this?(what does the 2nd season of vrl qualify you to is my question basically)

There's no point, each VRL champions will be sent to another tournament called VRL Finals (standard double elim), that's pretty much it

Then September-December is time for non-Riot tournaments

Yeah i just checked it has a decent prizepool So I guess it's a good incentive for money and fame(?)
But the biggest problem is since it doesn't get them to challengers that usually means less viewership
