Is Valorant too RNG?

recently we've constantly seen these top signed teams losing or at least dropping a map to random t2-3 / pug teams
is valorant too rng that these t1-2 teams can't find consistency or are we placing false expectations on teams that previously performed months ago in different metas?

It's sometimes too chaotic and hard to find a proper way to study the game and be constantly effective.

There are always so many abilities, ults, economy on the table...
It sometimes feels like overwatch, which is good, but not if you want a tactical game.

I would like to see the game with ults being more expensive and not as common, also with less abilities usage per round

You can’t say that because Vlr users downvote every thing critical regarding valorant

Having read you before I'd say it might be because you are sometimes a bit tactless about your takes

Honest criticism

Which tier 1 teams are losing to "random pug teams?"

  • XSET dropped at least one map to reformed (although they have some notable players, none have proved themselves at a high t1-2 level despite maybe c4lypso), dropped a map to radiance (maybe justifiable)
  • luminosity dropped a map to virtuoso (t2 team)
  • soniqs (high t2) dropped a map to "run it down"
  • t1 lost to cosmic divide, virtuoso, and zero marksmen silver, while also beating ex flickbaiters, bbg, pioneers, eg, geng, and most likely tsm
  • bbg lost to pack a punch/team x and dropped a map to zero marksmen black
  • ghost lost to cosmic divide and moon raccoons while also beating tsm and faze
  • rise lost to eg (t2)

here are also some unusually close games:
rise 14-12 zero marksmen black
tsm 13-11 gunsforhire
tsm 13-10 team basilisk
rise 13-10 pack a punch
rise 13-11 pack a punch ^ same series
t1 13-9 exile gaming

all those except xset are tier 2 as of now maybe rise is tier 1 too but thats it

yeah i agree i just think these are some teams that had high expectations / standards placed on them coming into this year's vct, considering most of them solidified themselves as consistent high t2 teams last year

I'd still consider Rise a low tier 1 team.

The maps are too short… a T2 team can have a good first half and it makes it impossible for the other team to come back. First to 15 would always be more ideal

Are we watching the same Valorant? If anything, it's the exact opposite of what you said.

When lesser teams get a huge lead over the favorites, they often choke it away:
11-3 to 11-13

Or they'll win over the favorite via an insane comeback:
4-8 to 13-11 twice

These aren't even that rare of occurrences. Comebacks happen at literally every tournament.

Edit:
It actually just happened again

I think changing meta means that long term dominance is hard but not impossible and also that teams can be very close together in quality

yes RNG because one round win can affect economy so much.

the huge amounts of updates and rapid changes combined with the nature of abilities and discovery of new set plays and set ups make sustained success difficult. CS:GO has barely changed since it was released, hence the reason why there were eras of constant dominance at times, like Astralis, NIP, and NaVi and Liquid to a lesser extent. In valorant, the constant meta changes combined with some complacency from those at the top of the game at that time (cough TSM cough) leads to less eras of complete dominance. Sentinels didn't get aim diffed at Champions by KRU, they just got outstratted and couldn't adapt to the meta properly. TSM got lost in the power creep and got caught resting on their laurels as everyone else developed past them. Specifically on the topic of TSM tho, I think their problem is more to do with Wardell, especially before Chamber. When he played Jett, he struggled to find value without the OP bc of his average level of rifling, especially compared to his OPing. Teams could just play around that, now to a lesser extend because of his Chamber play, but it still is there.
