Is academy teams in VCJ a mistake?

I came across this tweet

https://x.com/deviceotaku/status/1892894553419526472?t=liYRMLKDM6X6yIPKZer26A&s=19

This tweet most likely came as a response to FAV announcing them leaving valorant ( not forever) . It really got me thinking about whether academy teams are actually necessary in VCJ.

On one hand, the region is not in need of Tier 1 support.

But on the other hand both teams are actually elevating the scene more than most orgs.

To make it worse even FAV is actually one of the few orgs who actually tried to elevate the scene.

The problem with VCJ is that there are too many orgs trying to make Ascension so the salaries just get higher and higher so you'll need to pay a lot for a good roster. It isn't about Academy teams it's simply that FAV has invested for so many years but haven't seen close to any success

But you can't deny that Academy teams are probably the trigger to this tho.

Fav has been very unlucky with their matchups they got cockblocked 5 times always 1 step behind from reaching main stage and FAV is willing to put up qith it due to the promise of better exposure, but Academy Teams in VCJ is probably a slap in the face towards all the efforts FAV put in imo. And they actually have promising roster this time with all upcoming players

I don't think that is what he is saying in his tweet though this feels more like a personal opinion from you.

I interpret his wording to be more related to how VCJ is formatted with the Advance Groups directly into a Playoff bracket and how VCJ has so much investment but only 1 team makes it to Ascension in the end.

Well I did say "it got me thinking" so it's gonna be my personal opinion 😂.

Speaking of formats, holy shit who tf created them, only 2 premier teams qualifies to advance stage, might as well tell riot to turn vcj into franchise system

The way I see it advance stage format like this will only cause complacency, as if the orgs themselves are not complacent enough with gazillion imports on the scene

VCJ is probably the only region that does not need Academy.

They probably don't tbh, we could've seen Keisu , lafura and Mametu in main stage, all of which are upcomers and looked good but yeah its unfortunate that riot added academy teams rn

But I got to see honeybunny and killaa so it balances out a bit but I still don't like where this is going

Is it really considered unlucky if they failed to qualify to main stage 5 times? I do believe FAV got the short end of the stick with their tough draws and choke moments, but at some point you gotta just blame yourself for not getting better players.

Probably? But they picked their academy players so it's gonna be hard for them imo, I mean that's just what happens when you actually tried to help the scene and take the fewest shortcuts possible.

Not to mention the roster they have this time actually have something to show for but FAV kinda just has had enough it seems

Yeah seems like it, I think this issue is not gonna improve especially going into split 2. We have SG, Crest, Murash, Scarz, fighting for the last 2 spots for main stage, at some point these orgs are just gonna give up. This topic is gonna be brought up again depending on which team qualifies

I would like to see crest and especially Sc0rz go down, they are helping other region more than japan just by existing 😂😂😂

I need SG and Murash to win, Murash has Absol and really drives viewrship, and SG seemed like redeemed themselves by picking domestic talentlike kippei who's way too young to tier 2 standards.

After looking at the format, I agree, we will be having same conversation soon lol

Yeah, thats why I mentioned "depending on who qualifies" cuz I honestly don't fancy both team's chances of qualifying. Scarz has better players on paper, while Crest has a trend of performing above expectations sometimes. Murash fans are gonna go mad crazy if they missed out on main stage

It's all about the matchups I think but Murash really needs to step it up because if either Absol or TENNN stops shooting the whole team is going down lol.
