It's not an actual world cup for Esports. For some reason they just named it like that.

How would the formation work tho? Like few teams from every regions? EU, APAC, NA, CN and such? Getting teams from tier 2 exclusively or mix of T1 and T2?

it's difficult to explain since it isn't a world cup, but basically esports orgs who join will compete in a series of different esports games that they are in and whoever wins the most points wins the whole event.

I mean yeah it's not a RIOT event and I'm not a fan of Saudi involvement in eSports, but to say an event that will probably have a 750k-1.25m prizepool and have many international teams isn't a big tournament is disingenuous.

big prize pool ≠ big tournament

0 pedigree will come w winning it

ESWC is held in a massive arena and will most likely have around the same number of watchers generally maybe a little less on top of a massive prize pool and all while being an international event with a large non-single elim bracket. I think even if it isn't a RIOT event, it will have at least some pedigree with winning it.

im not so sure
its between toronto and champs so i think it will come after stage 2
meaning the top teams have to choose between scrimming and preparing for champs, the actual VCT tournament with the biggest pedigree, or play both EWC and champs and risk revealing strats and become more tired
dunno if top teams will play and so then we'll end up watching mid table teams
which just makes it a mickey

will there be like a quali tourney or the teams just get selected by organisers

if we use the LoL tournament from last year, the teams that make it to Masters Toronto would be invited to the EWC, which they can choose to decline. I'm not sure what happens if teams decline, since all the LoL teams invited last year went.
