When does it usually give you double rankup? or can't really tell? is there certain situations? Usually after the rank reset, where you play 5 ranked to get a rank (around 2-3 rank below your act rank), and the game will get you double rank up, for example, Act rank Asc 3 -> new season rank after 5 placement games -> Diamond 3 -> double rank up. Sort of like that.

Your case tho, I got no clue. Maybe the game judged that you belong in s3 since you have good MMR

when your hidden mmr is way higher than your current rank

if you're match mvp every game you'll double rank up
if you go on a winstreak after an episode reset/with few games played you can also get one
