Cream cheese is incredible with toasted bagels. If you're not toasting your bagels then I get the argument (but also toasted bagels are WAY better than not)

IDK ur local bagel chain but this is why flavored cream cheese exists. For example, Einstein Bros. Honey Almond cream cheese can be a better pairing for more complicated bagels.
Or their salty option onion and chive
