So the community as a whole has criticized the formatting of the league with the season being too short and pros not getting enough playtime. So here's my take on what Leo Faria and Ri0t can implement to maybe ease tensions and give both viewers and pros a better time.
So first things first, no matter what anyone says, Valorant can't have the same format as CSGO. In CSGO, nothing changes but maps. Everyone's smoke does the same thing, covers the same angle. Everyone's flash does the same thing etc. There are no outliers like agents in CSGO. There is no comps to cook, no new agents etc. So I just want to preface by saying more is not good in the case of Valorant. But I think riot can utilize the full year better. At this point we have teams that are ending their season in JULY. That is just crazy. But here's my suggestion:
Every year should start off in January with a Kick-Off/Lock-In type of tournament. Ideally, this would take place in January and feature every team in a single elim. This event wouldn't necessarily be on par with a masters or champs, but more of a warm-up. Single-elim bracket until the final 4, where double elim will take place. I really liked the reward of an extra slot at Masters for the previous Lock-In. This time around, it should be a champs spot to incentivize players.
Stage 1 Regionals would take Place Mid Feb-Early March. This new format would feature shorter splits to highlight tournaments because that's where the real meat and potatoes are.
Masters 1 takes place late March - Mid April.
After Masters 1, there would be a 1 1/2 month break for teams to rest, create new strats, reenergize, etc.
Split 2 would be separate from Split 1 and not records wouldn't carry over. This would start mid June and lasts until Mid July.
Masters 2 starts early August and ends early september
Masters 2 would lead directly into Champs where there won't be a split to qualify. This new champs format will only allow teams to qualify through Champions points which can be earned throughout the year with regular season wins, playoffs wins, and event matches won, and placements. The event placement points rewarded would be changed to reward the top 3 teams the most, and let teams who qualified and won a few matches get points for their wins as well. At the end of the year, whoever won the most and placed the most consistently will qualify to champs which will take place from October-November.
After this, teams will get a month break for December and then repeat the next year.
What ya'll think? I cook or no?
