Hear me out.,
The current VCT format is flawed. The championship points are meant to guarantee that the best teams make it to champs, but as we can see with teams like EDG and 100T, having a lot of champs points doesn't mean that the team is good. Because of this, I feel like there should be a change implemented guaranteeing that the teams that are the strongest in and out of game make it to champs.
The current playoffs format, implements single-elim games to reduce the amount of "pointless" matches, My idea will further reduce this number, and will force teams to have a higher overall skill outside of the lobby. There are some teams such as NRG and EG that didn't do that good in stage 1, but have severely improved in stage 2. These teams look to have been strong contenders in playoffs but may not make it because of their previous performance. My idea would provide a way for these teams to show their improvements at an international event.
Idea: Playoffs will qualify the top 2 teams to the event. For example, 100T and G2 would make it to Shanghai based off of their playoffs performance. The remaining teams (depending on how many are gonna qualify) make it through a deathmatch featuring the head coach from each team. The 2 playoffs winners do not have to compete in this. This would guarantee that teams who have fallen off like 100t wouldn't make it to champs, and it would add further depth and strategizing during the offseason concerning future signings.
