I agree, I think Haaland deserves it more this time. But Messi just being the goat is just Messi being the goat.

Haaland had more penalty scored than Messi.

Haaland came into a winning team that has dominated the Premier League from time to time in a whole decade. Even fell short of the CL trophy in 2021 (Lost to Chelsea).

Haaland had THE best midfielder oat of prem by his side (KDB). And also let's not forget Haaland was no where to be seen in the most imporant games. (The semi final vs Real Madrid) and Final (Vs Inter).

Messi has the better stats. Less penalties. Less goals but clears Haaland in any other stats and EVEN has better G/A than Haaland.

Messi was 35 and Haaland was 22

Also Ballon d'or has always been heavily or somewhat World cup influenced / Internationally. Modric in 2018 (For his Dark horse run with Croatia becoming runner ups in the 2018 World Cup) . CR7 in 2016 (Euros).

Now that Messi (The undisputed goat) won his long craved trophy + Having the best stats compared to the runner up (Haaland) .

Funny thing is I'm a City supporter since 2015 and I'm from Norway. So do i want Haaland to win YES.

But logically he didnt. Is it rigged? No, it totally makes sense. Haaland had a incredible ballon d'or run. But Messi had a better one.

Messi will probably win, the world cup performance really sways the votes.
On the club level for psg he did pretty okay, 2 trophies (though its in france), though their champions league campaign was lacklustre.

Haaland is the kinda opposite, he's purely goal output.
The way pep utilises him reduces haaland to a 6-yard box poacher.
Haaland lacks the big moments, didn't score in any of man city cup semi-final of finals.
