(saying your country has a lot of billionaires only means that there is inequality or monopolization happening in many different markets idk g, nothing wrong with making money but a lot billionaires let that shit go to their head or get there through scummy practices just saying)
India used to play football and hockey until late 70s and 80s. While we were quite good in hockey back then with 8 gold medals in Olympics , football we used to have international friendlies + commonwealth games and Asian games. But everything changed in 1983 when India unexpectedly won cricket World Cup and since then all the money , investments, interest of audience shifted to cricket.
Recently Indian football has won 3 consecutive tournaments, although they are small tournaments but still a large chunk of audience has attracted towards football in past 7-8 months. Our most important run will be world cup qualifiers starting next year January.
We used to be very good in football. We actually used to be called the brasil of asia. but then the rise in popularity of cricket along with mismanagement of the football association, politics and lack of ambition meant lack of development of our football team.
We actually have one of the most fiercest derbies in world football in kolkata that is played between mohun bagan and east bengal (fuck them).
Now we have a people that understand football incharge of the association. Results are promising now. We are rising slowly. Our youth setup is actually pretty decent now.
