If they assume woman then I guess everyone just assumes everyone is like them until shown otherwise
if they assume man then does everyone just assume men because men are generally the 'default' in media, like movie leads are generally men unless plot/advertising relevant

Nah, it's definitely the first one, if you're a man you project everything you see to men and same thing for women, even when someone tells you a story about a "person" if you're a man you imagine that person is a man and if you're a woman you imagine it's a woman, and that's speaking generally, not every single person does that kind of projection.

It's more stereotypical, if I am talking about k/j/c-pop people assume I am female but if I talk about Val/Pubg/Lego/anime they just assume I am a male
