Here's a recipe for making California rolls:
Ingredients:
2 cups sushi rice
2 cups water
1/4 cup rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 sheets of nori seaweed
1 avocado
1/2 cucumber
8-10 imitation crab sticks
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
soy sauce for serving
pickled ginger for serving
wasabi for serving
Instructions:
1-Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and transfer the rice to a saucepan.
2-Add 2 cups of water to the saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Cook the rice for 15-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
3-In a small saucepan, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
4-Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the vinegar mixture to the rice, folding gently to incorporate the liquid without smashing the grains.
5-Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
6-Slice the avocado and cucumber into thin strips. Cut the imitation crab sticks into thin pieces.
7-Lay a sheet of nori seaweed onto a sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
8-Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the rice.
9-Arrange the avocado, cucumber, and imitation crab sticks in a line across the center of the rice.
10-Using the sushi mat, tightly roll the sushi into a cylinder, tucking in the fillings as you go.
11-Slice the roll into 8-10 pieces using a sharp knife. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
