Necroing and rules

What are the rules on necroing? I just got temp banned(?) for necroing an old thread.
It's a fair ban - I just want to know if this rule was mentioned anywhere because I don't think I should be made aware of the rule after I violated it instead of before.

I'm surprised threads aren't automatically archived after a certain amount of time like why ban you and leave the thread postable

I found it in one of the ancient texts: “dont revive old threads”
