TLDR: I think that coaches are highly underrated for the amount of time they invest in the team and the ever changing meta in VALORANT.
Being Blamed
Coaches are the ones that are the scapegoats apart from the players. Many people don’t see the behind the scenes that the coaches do. A good example of this is Chet. Coming from rosters that didn’t do that well like TSM and NRG and then joining Envy (now Optic) along with screwing up Mikeshd. People shift their blame with Envy's (Optic's) early exit of Champions on Chet. However, it was many other factors like Victor bottom fragging as their duelist. And yay struggling. So, I think that's why coaches inherit some of the blame when a team fails to impress.
Reputation of the “Coach” role
The reputation of the “Coach” role right now is that many people think that coaches do “nothing” apart from just timing out and doing nothing 🤷. One of the big reasons people think this is because of Rawkus. Orgs need to stop signing players and turning them into coaches thinking that would be a better solution instead of getting an actual coach. (potter actually worked though :))
Changing Meta
VALORANT is a very “different” game compared to other games. The meta is constantly changing and coaches have to constantly adjust their comp rosters in order to stay constant. It is very hard to have a set stone strat and roster because of the amount of updates that are game changing. For example the 4.04 patch completely changed controllers. Astra who was the to go pick since the release nerfed significantly and Viper once a shadow of once it was. Omen and Brimstone were now viable picks. One thing that people should respect from coaches is quickly adapting to these big patch notes as they only had a little amount of time to get already.
Behind the scenes
Coaches have to VOD review for what they can improve on and counterstrat against teams. Right now in VALORANT's current state there is no replay system of some type making it hard to VOD review more effectively while games like CSGO have a replay system making it very easy to counterstrat and make strats. Coaches right now have to use the minimap making it more harder to VOD review. Also the chaotic nature of VALORANT I think makes VOD reviewing much harder. VOD reviewing also takes many hours going over other team’s games and reviewing scrim footage which can be very time-consuming.
Other
Other things that I appreciate from coaches is that coaches aren’t afraid to try new comps. I think that innovation is great and many people fault innovation for losses sometimes but I think it's great! (Sliggy 😉).
I think that coaches deserve just as much of credit for dedicating just as much or more time as their players!
