I was half baiting with the first comment but I kinda half meant it. I find it weird when people in general refer to the U.S./Canada as "America" when it's really just North America and there's a whole other continent inside just America.
Citizens of USA are called "Americans". That has nothing to do with continents. Plus everyone knows what South- and North America are. USA is just referred as "America" sometimes when that word is literally part of their name (United States of America).
