How come female teams are allowed to play VCT and Academy teams aren’t. Is there some kind of policy behind this?
rishu004 [#3]they play in a entirely different tournament. VCT Gamechangers.
Yeah but they are allowed in open qualifiers
mystbz1 [#2]female teams arent really a part of the same sort of org system if you get what i mean
Could you elaborate?
maximumszn [#4]Yeah but they are allowed in open qualifiers
in the main vct challengers tournament?
CongoBat [#9]I think they want to do whatever they can to encourage more female players/teams
I’m all for encouraging female teams but that feels a bit unfair to the academy teams
rishu004 [#7]in the main vct challengers tournament?
c9 white and c9 blue both competed in open qualifiers
maximumszn [#5]Could you elaborate?
the purpose of an acadamy team is an extension of the main roster. a female team is completely separate, think about like an MLB minor league team. there is no reason for a single a team to play in a baseball club tourny. but there is a reason for a female baseball team to do so. does that make sense?

that's unfair
but man, that's life
life is unfair
Going back to late 2014 in the World final of leagues, two Korean teams named Samsung White and Samsung Blue made it to the quarter-final and blue lost 0-3 to Samsung white even tho the Blue team has been dominating for an entire year in the Korea scene. This makes Riot worried about the conflict of interest. After this, Riot regulates one owner can only operate one team.
The reason for this is that, in case a main-team player is absent for some reason, 95% of the time an academy player is promoted temporarily or permanently depending on the situation. This could cause issues if, for example, both C9 and C9A were to make it to a LAN or challenger's main event, Leaf got sick, C9 would want to pull poiz to sub, but couldn't because he's also playing for the academy team at the same or similar times. Essentially, it comes down to the academy players basically being subs who can be promoted if they do well enough.

thats actually a very clever explanation. cheers

they are part of the same org, hypothetically it could be in their contract that they have to throw against another team from their org
Metal [#14]So Riot allows 1 team per org at any time,so you can't have a main team and a Academy team playing in VCT at the same time however female teams or teams who can play GC are an exception so this is why there can 1 main and 1 Female team in vct at the same time
pretty much
so, if the female team strong enough
u could actually see, example C9 vs C9 in group stage/playoff
CongoBat [#9]I think they want to do whatever they can to encourage more female players/teams

Thank you for the explanation
