Why do so many confuse spice with spicy flavor(chilly hot flavor)? I see people mix up those things so much when talking about food taste. Like I don't understand why people usually think indian food is very spicy (hot) while it's full of spices not peppers. It depends on regions in India but generally I have found indian food to be not that spicy(heat flavor). In my opinion It's the spices combination that makes Indian food good not chilly or peppers.

Also yeah too much spicy (heat) makes the food inedible. Never understood the hype for foods like those viral extremely spicy noodles. Just my another opinion on food.

from a korean's perspective, I also never got on the buldak hype train, although it might be because Koreans are just so used to that level of straight capsaicin.

for your spice vs spicy question, it might be as simple as them seeing the two words as similar, and then correlating spice with spicy when they're distinctly different.

I bought buldak noodles from an asian store nearby and got addicted to them for a solid 2 weeks lmao

for individuals already accustomed to spicy cuisine, it's not too bad of a jump. it's just that western(US, UK, etc...) individuals that are used to eating bland/salty foods their entire life treat the immense jump as a "challenge," which, I guess is reasonable for them.

I've seen my friends chug down the buldak sauce packet by itself, as unholy as it sounds (and is)

I have heard other normal versions of buldak are really flavorful. As for the extremely spicy ones it's not just about the spicy flavor or heat. It's like there is no other flavor except for the heat which is why I think they don't taste good. Tbh can't expect too much from instant noodles

Yeah the ones I bought had a pink package and they are quite spicy, personally they were pretty much on the edge of what I consider very spicy yet enjoyable food. A couple more notches on those noodles and it would've actual felt like something I would be chugging down for the sake of a challenge instead of a normal meal.

You got the carbonara buldak variant I think

Yeah probably, they were creamy and very flavorful and not just the spicy feel like some say. What is very odd is that I tried the original ones that are supposed to be more spicy than the carbonara yet they felt less spicy for me. I might be tweaking

I think you like their other versions. No way people like the taste of those extremely 4x or so spicy one otherwise. They have no flavor at all except for the heat. Too monotonous flavor profile. Ig some people just like the feeling of no sense of their tongue tbh.

True it's so irritating when people mix up spice and chilli spicy thing. And there are people who think food without lot of heat or spicy flavor is bland lol. If that was so then so many dishes in Indian or south asian cuisine (my favorite cuisine) would be bland. Countries fought wars for spices not chilly. Tbh I guess chilly or peppers are also part of spices.

Where are u from? If it's uk or any similar eu country then ur answer is pretty understandable since that's not real indian food , they just add a lot of sugar and cream in it to make it that way, authentic indian food is spicy for example butter chicken isn't supposed to be sweet

I have tried authentic Indian food. It's really good but isn't that spicy(heat). The spicy flavor I am talking about is the taste of chilly not spices. Yes indian food can be very spicy(hot) as well but generally I have found it to be moderate or negligible. Indian food is good cause of spices not spicy flavor( heat) in my opinion. Also bro putting sugar in savory indian foods is one of the worst thing possible in food. Makes the food so trash.

Indian cuisine is seriously diversed. In the North, they use a lot of green chillies and other raw spices/masalas in their food. Whereas, in South they use their spices/masalas a lot other than chillies. I bet you have not tried or heard about Northeast Indian cuisine, they eat anything that is edible(any meat) and use less masala on their food. Moreover, I feel you want to say is that Indian don't use chillies a lot. Infact, come to Northeast or try their cuisines, they uses their speciality heat agent (Ghost Pepper) in any curries or dishes or you may find chutney made from Ghost Pepper. As a whole, the spice tolerance in NER India is higher than any other part of India.

Yeah I know that which is why I said it depends on regions on how much chilli or peppers they use. But normally the indian foods that are really popular like biryani, samosa, palak paneer or even dal, dosa, sambhar, chicken curry or mutton dishes use lots of spices but aren't too spicy(heat). They are not spicy(hot) or moderately spicy(hot). What makes them good is use of spices like garam masala or other spices used in Indian cuisine.

Yes I can agree in that we have the spicy in terms of flavour and not too much in terms of heat chili

I am saying Indian food generally(depends on regions) is more spicy(full of spices) and not too spicy( heat or taste of too many chilly or peppers).

I love Indian food but I'm terrible with spice so I never try stuff outside my comfort zone.
Can anyone recommend Indian curries that are good but aren't spicy?

You mean food that uses lots of spices like garam masala or turmeric and such right? Cause it's hard to find Indian curry which uses less spices.

It really depends on what you are eating Indian cuisine really depends on the flavour of various spices the spicyness of a dish really depends on how much you want it and it also depends from which part of India you live the spicyness of a dish
