My brother just got a new PC with the following specs:

  • RTX 3060
  • Ryzen 5 5600G
  • b550 with wifi mobo
  • 2x 8GB dual channel ram
  • NZXT 850 watts PSU gold
Any thoughts on why it’s only getting 200-300 fps on low settings? Res is 1920x1080. On some maps, only gets like 160 FPS.

TIA!

What FPS do others get on these specs?
You can look it up on YT, but just from looking at just the specs 200-300 sounds about right

I mean if u had a stronger CPU it wont bottleneck the GPU
and why the fuck would u get 850 watt psu
600w would be more than enough

oh yeah speaking of that, I have an i7 13650h + rtx 4060 and I can't get a stable 250+. anyone know why?

U prolly play on high settings
and make NVIDIA reflex to On rather than ON + boost (20 fps difference)
and turn down MSAA to 2x or off MSAA is really intensive

I've tried both everything on max and everything on minimum and I don't notice a difference in terms of fps

See if u do Long session the CPU and GPU would heat up and they wont give u usual FPS that u get so get a cooling pad change ur thermal paste , and get an external 240 hz monitor and connect it to GPU port

maybe tweak your laptop's power usage to performance

cpu bottleneck, the 5600g's lack of cache bottlenecks the performance by quite a bit.

Try to optimize the fps through bios settings, set xmp on, make sure some settings like high priority is on and other stuff, im getting 200-400 on ryzen 5600 and rx 570 4gb

the cache memory on the cpu isnt great nowadays
The only valid reason to build on AM4 is if you are using one of the "X3D" chip.... otherwise you should just buy AM5

why didnt you go for a ryzen 7000 series over the 5000 series of CPUs? they are not that much more expensive and have a much higher processing power, and uses the AM5 chipset motherboards so its future proofed for newer specs. my brother built a similar build, except with ryzen 7600 with similar motherboard and GPU, and double the RAM and he can run games like COD at 120fps comfortably. while he doesnt play val, i do and i recently built a new pc with the ryzen 5 7600X and an AMD GPU and if i uncap my frames, they go up to around 500. but quick question, why do you need anything more than 300 frames on valorant? does it really make a difference?
