No way Sony gave up on a 400 million dollars project within a couple weeks right? Like not even try making it free to play and then recoup some revenue through micro-transactions atleast ?

The problem is the game is still shit even if it became free. Everyone is just gonna play overwatch instead. With the amount of dead games these days I think Sony actually made the right move
There's so many other things that could've made them infinite money but they decided to commit to a huge mistake instead of just cutting their losses. Sunken cost fallacy must be hitting pretty hard when you're already 200 million dollars down.
