I think he meant that you'd know because they did it in Canada (as in you'd learn about it in Canadian history class or whatever when talking about European colonization of Canada)

Yeah that's why I was confused. It also wasn't the catholic church, it was the government (the government was heavily influenced by the catholic church but the distinction is there). All good, though
