its very debatable for historic reasons of the region, only Istambul is really in continental europe but part of anatolia have historically been inhabited by europeans before the turks invaded everything, imo there is an argument for both but turks will come at you if u tell them they are middle eastern so be careful

idk if turkey was considered in the 746 but if it wasnt then the the population of europe is still smaller compared to americas, wether turkey in middle eastern or not depends a lot on the part of turkey and its debatable, historically most of anatolia has been inhabited by greeks/europeans and the most important Turkish city was basically one of the most historic european cities before the fall of Constantinople (what we know as Istambul today), even if turks mixed a lot with the native greek/byzantine population of those zones they are originically a group from the mountains in asia so not really related to other europeans culturally/historically/genetically, thats why the father of the turkish nation Ataturk changed the country to make it more european like and they are very chill compared to other muslim countries
