English -> Mandarin takes away a lot of the nuances that were in the original sentence. What was more like a metaphor to us English speakers was taken in a literal manner for Mandarin speakers.

'hate' translated into chinese is a much stronger word than 'hate' in english, zekken probably meant that he didnt have faith while people in china read the translation and thought that he despised chinese teams

It's a translation issues. To them it sounded like he is saying fuck china. While to people who understand English it has a different meaning. That's why companies don't use sarcasm or hyperbolic sentences. He's just unlucky that the translator weren't able to convey his true message.

He said he was a "China hater", which probably meant much much more to the Chinese fans than "Chinese team hater" lol.

As a highly salaried pro player you have to maintain some professionalism. So when you say that you hate an entire region, of which you are an extremely popular player there, you are gonna expect to get hate from them, especially since he didn’t clarify he was joking. The same way you’d expect NA fans to hate on KangKang if he said he was an NA hater

My point is you’re gonna get hate if you say stuff like that. By all means say it but you can’t then cry because ur getting hated for it
