this is obviously a misled stereotype in the united states though. when i lived in the states, i found that indians were more similar to white people than they were similar to, say, east asians. this is probably because many of them came to the states already very wealthy, meaning they could assimilate much more quickly (this is not to say they are culturally identical).
I agree. the Indian population is very diverse. the top 1-10% of the population live like a normal western household. but the other 90% are still living in the olden times. they haven't developed yet.
still, most of the people on internet are the top 10% like me so the stereotypes don't really make sense to us.
