notice how I said most fighting games including smash, but not excluding anything else. I actually watch Smash and they have pretty good viewership in good events, its a big game in Japan

True if you take all Fighting games...but that would be like taking all MOBAs or all FPS into one category and then you have an even larger spread between them and the "major" eSports like Dota, LoL, CS etc.
Imo I'd say if you can't have it as a full-time job as a pro player I wouldn't consider it in the top tier as it is largely tied to viewership and therefor sponsoring.
I could e.g. argue we are better in FIFA eSports...but ain't nobody care for that either tbh

If FIFA draws in big viewership I wouldn't mind calling it a big esport, most esport players don't make a full-time job salary. Fighting games like smash do draw in sponsorships and viewership, but most of the money goes towards the people running the event, which can vary
