Do riot games not understand simple geography. LATAM = South america entirely, so tell me why Brazil is it's own region?
And why does Mexico compete in LATAM? Obviously Mexico is a part of North America, but is competition to hard or something? I don't understand

I could say the same for the USA but then Canada would be the only country in the North American region. Do you see where I'm going?

True, but what I have seen on a previous thread is that they are only going to send the LATAM North team (mexico/central) because they can't even travel between each other. It would make more sense if they just competed in NA.

the latam south team cant travel anywhere, according to chile's travel restrictions, which is why the north team is being sent.

thanks for answering, because coming from a game like CS where everything is combined this just doesn't make much sense to me. Brazil has played with ecuador, argentina, bolivia, etc. for years and there has been no issues.

they were able in the past but Riot recently put out a statement regarding strict restrictions and so now south can't really travel. north would go to iceland and south would just get circuit points im pretty sure

Brazil and LATAM should have two spots total between each of them... so Russia can get one spot of their own... I feel like Gambit was a better team than anyone in BR and LATAM and my guess is they played on high ping which may have played a role in why they lost... or I could just be stupid

they lost because fnatic was better but i do agree that turkey and CIS should have at least one spot reserved even if its one for both turkey and cis combined without eu

LATAM means LATin AMerica, not South America. It consists of American countries that speak Spanish, Portuguese and French. The division that Riot uses is Latin America and Anglo-Saxon America, not North, Central and South America, it is a cultural rather than a geographical division.
Brazil has its own server because South America is very large and dispersed (about 2x the size of the USA), and we cannot have a single server that can fully serve all regions because of these distances.
So the solution was to share: a server for Brazil, one for the southern portion of South America, and another for northern South America, continental Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico.
Remembering that the axis of highest population density in Brazil is in the South-Southeast-Northeast of the country, that is, the coast of the country, so our server is in São Paulo, the largest and most influential city in the country.
It is worth remembering that we are not Europeans, we do not speak several languages like them, so it would be bad for Mexicans to play on a gigantic server that speaks only English.

not exactly true. hispanic countries speak spanish, latin american countries speak any romance (latin) languages. so brazil and haiti, despite speaking portuguese and french, are actually part of latin america, but are not hispanic

Koreans play with themselves and Japanese people play with SEA to form AP region, however it is common for Koreans to play in AP and vice versa
