It is confirmed that Berlin will be the host of EMEA franchising over Barcelona. RITO clearly a 'L' as Spain has a huge Valorant fanbase but taxes maybe the issue.

supernova [#4]It should be in France or Spain
Riot L
-Supernova The King of Valorant
problem is there is alot of infrastructure in Germany whereas switching would be rebuilding from the ground up
trust me you dont want to do anything in barcelona atm, the city is in a terrible state atm, Berlin is a shithole too but better choice, I doubt riot are willing to go smaller countries, and from the big european countries:
Berlin makes sense because LEC is hosted in Berlin as well. And its located in center. But Barcelona would have been cool and some change up from LoL. I do believe tho that Berlin is more suited for international league than Barcelona. I just think Spanish community (not only val) is strong already that mixing it up with English community could have caused some problems. Like would the casters cast in Spanish or English at main stage (like LEC casters cast from same stage as players) etc?
nairolf1337 [#8]Vienna is #1 no doubt
-> great infrascturcture & public transportation
-> safe
-> in the middle of Europe
-> it's not Berlin
-> ranked 1st as most liveable city in the world
-> Austria has absolutely 0 Valorant fans or players so there is no home crowd advantage
true but Riot probably wants a big country with a big valorant fanbase
idkbro [#7]trust me you dont want to do anything in barcelona atm, the city is in a terrible state atm, Berlin is a shithole too but better choice, I doubt riot are willing to go smaller countries, and from the big european countries:
- Spain: afaik Riot has their office is in Barcelona so Madrid not an option
- Germany: Berlin good option even if its a bit of a shithole, best option, not good just the least shit
- Italy: Milan could be a good option but for some reasons italians have no scene in esports
- France: Paris good option but its a shithole just like Barcelona
- UK: Brexit, otherwise London would be a solid option ngl
- Russia: lol
- Turkey: could be good, cheap country, visas arent a problem for russians but problem is ping and I doubt any1 wants to go live in Turkey lol
can you develop, what kind of reason is "trust me"

good point, best options are central european cities and personally I would prefer smaller ones from smaller countries instead of big cities like Berlin and Barcelona but I get that Riot wants to the city to be one in which they already have offices in, Prague and Vienna would have been great options, probably Netherlands too

Ok so, the version for the Spanish community given by Lembo, is that Riot really wanted Barcelona but most orgs have opposed to it because they didn't wanna open a whole new set of offices there since most teams already have theirs in Berlin for LEC. This being said, according to him Riot's plan is to take the league to Barcelona at some point, maybe in a few years once the scene is more settled since it would be the better place to host events and fill stadiums (they would get full just like they did in Turkey this champions and if KOI is playing, oh boy the stadium would fall down)

The problem to do is that then you cannot make a league with a crowd for regular season
Mortadelo [#11]can you develop, what kind of reason is "trust me"
data, barcelona is full of mena inmigrattion, a lot of rapes, not safe overall, its unlikely that anything would happen to any1 but considering how high the spanish standard for security is, there are better options in that sense withtin Spain, also taxes in Catalonia arent as bussiness friendly as Madrid for example, my best options would be Vienna and Prague, big cities are shitholes but Barcelona is a shithole among shitholes

I can confirm this :)
nutab1e [#13]if paris and barcelona are shitholes I think the world is doomed
for european standards I am talking, obviously its natural that bigger cities are shitholes, thats why I think hosting it in smaller countries/cities but that are still not too small like Prague and Vienna would be best options, both are also beatiful too

bro you're just racist I mean it's not even subtle
Mortadelo [#15]The problem to do is that then you cannot make a league with a crowd for regular season
Dont do it then? Just have a crowd for Regional Finals, you dont need all matches to have a small studio crowd, its a waste of money personally. Regular season just do it in studio without crowd and then for playoffs just do a big LAN in a big stadium

Barcelona might not be the safest city in the world but is definitely not the worse in Europe. Is not like you feel unsafe in the streets or something dude. The city is gorgeous and one of the most visited ones in the world for a reason.
On the other hand, if Riot cared that much about that why tf did they put Champions in Istambul
Taxes are high yes, but players only have to live there during the splits, is not like they have to move the whole org base to Barcelona.
Plus you are forgetting all the advantages the city has against cities like Vienna or Prague
nutab1e [#19]bro you're just racist I mean it's not even subtle
why? lol, obviously for example a country like Bulgaria is kinda of a shithole for european standards but compared to the rest of the world its very rich and developed, how is that racist? I specifically mentioned I am talking about european standards which are very high, also I am talking about crime, safety, contamination and other things, obviously Paris and Barcelona are rich cities with good quality of life
idkbro [#20]Dont do it then? Just have a crowd for Regional Finals, you dont need all matches to have a small studio crowd, its a waste of money personally. Regular season just do it in studio without crowd and then for playoffs just do a big LAN in a big stadium
So you don't want a a crowd in as many Valorant events as possible? Why would you not do it when you can actually do it? Amd how is it a waste of money if the teams have to play in LAN anyway, you need the stadium for playoffs anyway, you earn money with tickets dude

You are right, I forgot they are using LEC studios which are built to allocate a crowd, even then its pointless imo, I feel the same from watching a regular LAN match with no crowd than a small studio crowd, doesnt change much, also its not like you are gonna make a lot of money from it, its a studio at the end of the day it doesnt have much capacity. Personally I only care about the big crowd in arenas, I couldnt care less about a small studio crowd, I have been watching csgo for years and I am used to huge crowds so no crowd or small crowd feels the same for me

Obviously its not the worse in Europe, the spanish standard for security is among the best in the world, the least safe spanish city might be the safest in other countries, also I hate big cities personally as you can tell, I think they are all shitholes compared to smaller chill ones so I am biased

All Ik is if they do it Berlin BIG needs a spot if we don't want empty crowds for the rest of our lifes

it is true that the lec studio only has 100 seats and still finds a way to be empty most of the time
