Drx v Optic analysis

Let’s start out with looking at their previous encounter at the last masters event. It was an extremely close match with optic winning by mere inches 2-1. Optic lost their own map pick pretty badly and however proceeded to win Drx’s map pick narrowly. In the decider, optic were able to win in overtime. This match came down to the ability to overcome and adapt which at the end of the day optic did much better. They were able to read into what Drx would try to do and work around that and adapt.

This event, Drx is less reliant on those protocols and are able to adapt more easily now which is a huge addition. This less strict gameplay and better igling/midrounding from Drx will let them overcome adversity in tough situations. One huge downside to Drx is that they do have certain set plays and protocols that they use and know how much optic prep and read their opponents, relying or using these protocols and executes could be detrimental. Also Drx does come from a “weaker” region and might run into the issue of a smaller map pool than optic. This could hurt them in the map picks but overall they are a very strong team with very strong individuals. If everyone shows up they have a very good chance of winning the series.

This event optic started out slow with a questionable start vs guild however since then have picked up the pace. Although the star player, yay has been having a “average” event and has not been able to find as much impact as he usually does, other individuals such as fns and Crashies have really improved in the fragging department. On top of that, optic has one of the best reads on their oponent, especially if it’s a rematch. Optic also has a vastly stronger and bigger map pool than Drx. At the end of the day it depends on individual performance and maps but optic have a very good chance of winning the series.

Yea, it depends heavily on map picks/bans.

Drx seem to be banning split/fracture which optic looks very strong on so it depends which map do they want to take the gamble on.

Optic is banning icebox a lot but they have leaned away from it (guild game)

No it came down to Rb not hitting his shots i swear if he loses this one he needs to be dropped, i'm sure any tier 1 org in Korea would like to pick him up. I think there are better options for DRX if they wanna win champions.

key points are that DRX's loss to optic formerly came from two aspects: rigidity/inability to adapt + yay having massive serieswide impact

they've clearly given up their old style of play for one that seems more fluid and malleable, and yay hasn't really shown his usual absurd performances yet

pretty concerning as an optic fan. on the bright side, they seem to be on an upward trajectory + marved is going above and beyond atm

looking forward to the series, especially the controller matchup

Zest single-handedly kept Drx in that split game. It wouldn’t have been as close if he didn’t. You can’t blame it on one individual because everyone except mako and zest performed like shit on that map.

I’m honestly glad that the team isn’t relying on yay as much. I’ve always been a fan of how optic play and not relying on him 24/7 has allowed everyone to step it up. It will be a great series regardless of results

I do not agree that Optic has a better map pool than drx. DRX can play any map. It all comes down to the maps they pick and how they adapt to optic. Also if you consider their last match up where RB has his worst match, if he can play well then I think Drx can win. DRX 2-1 hopium.

They can play any map but their willingness to play those maps is not as much as optics. It could just be they like to lean into their strengths a lot but eventually it’s going to get read.

Nah i stand by my decision, Rb had the lowest Kill to Death Ratio going into this matchup everyone else was doing alright. Although putting Buzz on the Controller role is pretty redundant. Like i said everything comes down to Rb whither he can find those First Blood and not give Optic every opportunity to cease a round.

Overall I agree. The agent and role decisions on that map were very questionable, but you cannot deny that overall optic was just doing better and took every opportunity they were given.
