Give me some books to check out, preferably in the Fantasy genre, but no YA. Nothing from Tolkien, Sanderson, or GRRM since I've already either read or own their works.

ascensioN [#3]If you liked LOTR, WoT and asoiaf just start reading malazan book of the fallen or the realm of the elderlings. Trust me, these are the books. Malazan is gritty asf shit is military high fantasy
Malazan and Wheel of Time are a bit scary to dive into just because of the sheer amount of books and time commitment. Maybe I'll get to them eventually, but not right now.

Dont ever get into them, too long of a slog imo and wot gets terrible midway. if youre determined, malazan is really good for a series which is that long

Yea, while the size of WoT intimidates me the most, other things have detracted me from reading it as well. Like the infamous "slog" or how Jordan apparently writes his female characters. I'll probably never get into the series.

I didnt tell you read Wheel of time, it's a bit average compared to other solid series, but I do recommend Realm of the Elderlings, you can start with the Farseer Trilogy

Malazan is fairly confusing there are a lot of characters, subplots etc so dont skim much but I dont think you'll face problems if youve read books like asoaif lotr before

I would say malazan is confusing when you start the series because the author drops you in the middle of a siege and lots of characters are introduced and they are not categorized as good and evil. Most of them are grey and there are literally lot of things that happen, what i mean to say is the first book can be a bit tough to complete but you will get hang of it

yeah that's what I heard, he doesn't give a lot of backgroud info/lore and you just kinda have to piece it together yourself... Anyway, I ordered the first two books for now, let's see. Also thx for the info

I'm already angry with Winds of Winter, but adding Kingkiller to the list of unfinished series would hurt. Will definitely check out though.

Im in the same boat honestly. But these are some of the finest works in Fantasy so I had to read them. Although rothfuss is a lazy bum atleast he isnt that old so theres a chance that the third book will come. On the other hand GRRM might write the next one but hes defo not releasing the last book and inevitably someone else like sanderson will pick up to finish the series and I dont like his style

Go into it with the knowledge that they’re good books and enjoy them for what they are. Don’t expect another book to come anytime tho.

Thank you for reminding me of The Witcher. I've watched the show, and thought it was alright, but I've heard it strays away from the source material quite a bit. Might give it a shot.
As for the others, Cherub, Gone, and Skulduggery are YA, so that's a no no for me.

first law is definitely worth the read, not sure if is the most "true" grim dark out there but i'm pretty sure is a strong contender for that title.
